1. Kranskloof, Magaliesberg
An easy to balanced walk at an affordable price makes the Kranskloof trail an easy pick. It even has pet-friendly accommodation for when you aren’t in a hurry back home.
2. Newlands Forest, Cape Town
An easy walk with an amazing view makes this another must-do hiking trail. For just R250 per year the Newlands Forest is the perfect place for you and your four-legged friend.
3. Huddle Park Golf and Recreation, Johannesburg
The newly established dog walking area is open all year and consists of an easy path. Yearly membership fees are also available.
4. Constantia Nek, Cape Town
Deemed the most beautiful garden in Africa by UNESCO’s World Heritage Site this is an obvious choice for a walk with your pet. Hiking from Constantia Nek to the Kirstenbosch Gardens is a six kilometre walk past some of the Mother City’s most beautiful nature.
5. Buffalo Gorge, Middleburg
A moderate to effortful walk makes the Buffalo Gorge perfect for those who enjoy a more challenging hiking trail. The trail also consist of a mountain bike track as well as camping facilities.
6. Umhlanga Lighthouse Beach
This free trail on one of the most beautiful beaches in South Africa passes the area’s main attraction – the lighthouse. Remember to keep your dog on a leash!
7. Walk Haven Dog Park, Johannesburg
This route was built specifically for walking your dog and even has two large dams for them to cool off in. Entrance fee is free for dogs but R30 for their owners.
8. Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, Cape Town
A small fee gets you into over 300 kilometres of walking trails for you and your dog. Just remember to pick up after your dogs and keep them leashed at all times.
9. Leadville Dog Park, Cape Town
A pet’s paradise, fully dedicated to your pet’s needs. This off-leash park even features a coffee shop for owners to relax at while the dogs play.
10. Sards Bark Park, Port Elizabeth
For only R25, you can spend quality time with your pooch, surrounded by beautiful scenery. Aside from the guaranteed fun for the dogs, you’re also able to grab delicious coffee at the K9 coffee bar!
